Boot Camp was a fast-paced, foundational-level educational course covering all the basics of dental infection prevention and patient safety.

Boot Camp is perfect for those new to dental infection prevention and safety who are seeking an introductory understanding of the content area or for those who want to build on, apply, or enhance existing knowledge using content in practical applications to master concepts. This course is appropriate for those early in their career, making a career shift, or who want a refresher.

Format & Features

Boot Camp took place in Atlanta, GA, from January 23 - 25. The Air Force, Army, Navy, IHS, and VA had additional training sessions on January 26.

Curriculum

The course curriculum is based on the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings-2003, the 2016 Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings: Basic Expectations for Safe Care, the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (1910.1030), and the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (1910.2000). Due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic, the curriculum will also cover the most up-to-date interim guidance and any related regulations. Participants gain an understanding of relevant infection control laws, regulations, guidelines, standards, and best practices. They will also get practical tips on how to implement them in their practice setting.

Target Audience

Developed for participants new to dental infection prevention and safety who are seeking introductory understanding of the content area or for those who want to build on, apply, or enhance existing knowledge using content in practical applications to master concepts.

This course is appropriate for those early in their career, making a career shift, or who want a refresher. This may include:

• Clinicians (dentists, hygienists, assistants)
• Consultants/lecturers 
• Dental practice managers 
• Educators/program directors 
• FQHC/public health personnel 
• Infection control coordinators
• IHS/Tribal health organization/tribal urban clinic 
• Military/federal service employees 
• Sales representatives, customer service personnel, service technicians, and other professionals who work for the companies that manufacture or distribute products, equipment, or services to the dental profession
• Those who inspect or investigate dental settings for compliance with the guidelines and standards on behalf of the government, regulatory, accrediting, or public health authorities
